Traveling with Toddlers

Traveling with toddlers can be both a challenge and a joy, but keeping little ones engaged is key to a smoother journey. Here are some engaging activities perfect for entertaining toddlers during travel!

1. A generic pill box used for snacks.  Snacks!  A Dollar Tree pill box {source} was a great tool!  We filled the compartments daily with raisins, goldfish, M&Ms, canned beans, etc.

2. Lollipops to help with ear pressure changes.  Lollipops with vitamin C are a win-win.

3. An apple.  I consider this more of an activity than a snack because it takes him so long to get through it.  The sweet juice motivates him to keep at it.  Win for everyone!

4. New toys.  Luke was most captivated by a handheld miniature personal fan and a rubber ball.  It's the little things.  (The ball was not used on the plane, but was quite fun to chase when we found open areas for Luke to blow off some steam.)

5. Painter's Tape.  Luke loved peeling the tape off the airplane tray/arm rest/etc and handing the pieces to me to re-stick somewhere else.

6. Pipe Cleaners in a Spice Container : For toddlers who like to collect and contain things.

7. Fastening the airplane seat belt, rinse and repeat.

Travel Scavenger Hunt: Create a simple scavenger hunt list tailored to your journey. Include items like "blue car," "person with a hat," or "tree." Printable lists can be found at Education.com

2. Sticker Books: A classic travel companion, sticker books can keep toddlers busy for hours. Check out a variety at [Amazon].

3. Interactive Apps: Download some toddler-friendly educational apps before your trip. Apps like “Endless Alphabet” or “PBS Kids Games” are both engaging and educational [App Store].

4. DIY Travel Puzzle: Print out some pictures of the places you'll visit, glue them onto lightweight cardboard, and cut them into pieces to create a custom puzzle.

5. Storytime on the Go: Bring along a few beloved storybooks or subscribe to an audiobook service to listen to stories. Check out options at [Audible] or access Libby App through your local library.

6. Coloring Kits: Pack a small coloring kit with crayons and a coloring book. Find travel-friendly options at [Target].

7. Snack Time Activity: Turn snack time into a game by using different containers and asking your toddler to sort snacks by color, size, or shape.

8. Travel Journal: Create a simple travel journal with your toddler. They can draw pictures or you can write down their thoughts and fun memories.

With these activities, your travels with toddlers can be filled with fun and meaningful moments! Always remember to take breaks and enjoy the journey together. Safe travels!
